Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Fault

The engine oil pressure sensor is sending a signal that's out of range, meaning either the sensor is bad or the oil pressure is genuinely not where it should be.

The engine control module (ECM) expects an oil pressure signal that fluctuates between 0.5 to 4.5 volts (or equivalent pressure readings, like 5 to 90 psi) depending on engine speed and load.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Check the engine oil level. If low, top up and retest. Decision: If oil level confirmed okay, proceed to step 2.
2. 22. Inspect the wiring and connectors at the oil pressure sensor for damage or corrosion. Decision: If damaged, repair or replace as needed. If okay, proceed to step 3.
3. 33. Measure the voltage at the sensor connector with a multimeter. Expected: 0.5 to 4.5 volts based on oil pressure. Decision: If voltage is out of range, replace the sensor. If within range, proceed to step 4.
4. 44. Run the engine and monitor the oil pressure reading through the scan tool. Decision: If reading is low and engine sounds abnormal, further investigate oil pump or internal engine issues.
